Xiaomi is no longer only playing with the smartphone market. In fact, the company has started investing in notebooks, which many believe to be simliar to Apple’s MacBook line. The question now is, which company would dominate the notebook industry?
Xiaomi’s New Venture
Xiaomi proved through its smartphone offerings that companies can offer quality products even at price ranges that are extremely affordable. The company has been able to break through the market and deliver record-breaking sales without losing its appeal in the past few years. It is a feat that has also put the company in direct comparison, perhaps even direct competition, with Apple.
This time, it appears that Xiaomi is gunning further to push the rivalry as it dabbles in the notebook market.
Xiaomi has dabbled in phones, bikes, and drones, and this time, notebooks. According to reports, its first attempt at laptops seems rather impressive. In fact, some are calling the Mi Notebook Air a good first effort.
Xiaomi Mi Notebook Line
According to Gizmag, the device features an excellent metal exterior and specs that gives justice to its price tag. The Mi Notebook Air range comes with a 12.5-inch model, packing in an Intel Core M processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. It also just weighs 2.36 lb (1.07 kg) and offers 11.5 hours of battery life.
Because of the size and design of the product, many believe that this is Xiaomi’s way of competing with Apple’s 12-inch MacBook line.
Yugatech, on the other hand, also listed down the details of the 13-inch variant:
- 3-inch Full HD display @ 1920 x 1080 resolution
- Intel Core i5-6200U processor
- NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU w/ 1GB GDDR5 RAM
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 256GB SSD + SATA slot for expansion
- Backlit keyboard
- 2x USB 3.0
- HDMI port
- USB Type-C port
- 40Wh battery
- 8mm thick
- Windows 10 OS
It is not clear yet how the notebooks will perform but some do consider them a direct copycat and jab at Apple which may or may not pan out for Xiaomi.
