X-Men: Apocalypse is less than a month away, and to keep the hype going, a new video has been released showcasing the film’s titular villain. The video gives a brief glimpse of the history of the first mutant: Apocalypse.
Screen Rant reports that 20th Century Fox has released a new video about the latest addition to the mutant franchise. It reveals the story of the world’s first mutant, as well as the reason he intends to wipe out humanity.
Apocalypse traces his origins millennia ago in ancient Egypt where he was created. He is the creator of civilization, and because of that, he has developed a god-complex.
He later disappears off the face of Earth, and all records of his existence vanish. After lying dormant for centuries, he reawakens in 1983 after taking the body of another mutant.
He awakens to the world he views as corrupt and decides to remake it in his own image: a world for mutants. Having absorbed the powers of countless mutants, he is undoubtedly the most powerful mutant in history.
According to Collider, director Bryan Singer believes X-Men: Apocalypse is by far the biggest X-Men movie. The villains are more powerful, and with the world itself as the battlefield, the stakes are definitely higher.
The director is also confident about Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Apocalypse in the film despite many doubting this decision. Another intriguing aspect of the character is that despite being the most powerful mutant in the X-Men universe, not much is known about him other than those revealed in the comic books.
Previous films pit mutants against other mutants, or mutants against humans. This time, however, the X-Men will face a mutant whose powers are so overwhelming, they are essentially fighting against a god.
We will see how our young mutants fare against the monstrous enemy once X-Men: Apocalypse is released on May 27th, 2016.
