Russia’s Supersonic Anti-ship Missile Destroyer In The Works

Russia is out to prove that it can fight the United States as the latter reportedly refused to discuss concerns over its missile defense system. Moscow’s new class destroyers are expected to outgun the largest US warships which could further spark concerns over the resurgence of another world war.

Russia’s New Warships

Russia wants to make sure it can fight the United States should things come to worse. According to reports, the country is working on Leader-class destroyers that will be equipped with Kalibr-NK cruise missiles and S-500 air defense systems.

According to Sputnik, the new destroyers could soon be included to the country’s lineup of impressive arsenal comprised of cutting edge military equipment. The contract could soon be signed as Russia’s Ministry of Defense is now reviewing the design.

“Presently, a preliminary design of Project 23560 Leader is under consideration at the Russian Ministry of Defense,” said Igor Ponomarev, vice president of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). Should the project be given a go, Ponomarave added that “we will develop a technical design of the ship and prepare the documents to build the ship in the time frame set by the ministry.”

US Refuses Cooperation

There are still no specific details about the project or when it will be signed but final designs should be ready this year. The news comes after a series of tensed encounters with the United States. In another report from Reuters, Russia claims that the United States does not want dialogue about its missile defense system.

“We have offered them cooperation many times and found ways we could solve the situation … But we did not manage to convince them to continue dialogue on this issue. As I understand it, now is not the best time for them to hold consultations,” said Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov. The official called the decision of the United States to deploy such system as “very dangerous.”
