Breadcrumbs of a possible John Cena vs. Undertaker match are up in the air once more, though hearing about it is nothing new.
Thanks to a recent video released by the WWE, the Undertaker has once again been put in the limelight. In the clip, there was a talk involving five possible stars that the former WWE champion could face.
Aside from the Undertaker, other names mentioned were Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Shane McMahon and Finn Balor. The Dead Man was actually the last one to be mentioned, another match that is not necessarily new.
Old news revived
A John Cena vs. Undertaker match was previously rumored for WrestleMania 32. It was billed as the possible send-off match for the “Taker,” but would later be nixed due to an injury to the Cenation leader.
Undertaker instead faced Shane McMahon, while Cena made a cameo appearance alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Cena has been well and good ever since though his off-WWE commitments have seen him erratically on SmackDown.
Nakamura and Joe could make sense though the WWE will need to elevate them to the regular shows first. Balor is interesting as well, but it would mean a cross-brand match that could be hard to book.
Hence, the logical choice is really to see a Cena vs. Undertaker match and that could likely make sense for WrestleMania 33. Taker has yet to appear in the WWE scene, technically a free agent since he was not part of the WWE Draft.
As previously reported on Wrestling Inc., photos showing Shane-O-Mac and the Undertaker hanging out at a local bar were shown in August. That alone was a possible teaser that the future WWE Hall of Famer would be making an appearance soon.
If the WWE is bent on booking Cena and Undertaker for WrestleMania 33, the storylines need to be burned soon. All that is likely to happen in the coming WWE pay-per-views which is anyone’s guess.
