In as far as the U.S.-Israel relation is concern; there is this never-ending saying that goes: “It’s the tail wagging the dog.” The “tail” must have wagged its “dog” once again as the U.S. scrambled to openly express its vow to defend Israel the instant Iran attacks the Jewish State.
What it means to be an ally to U.S. or an ally to Israel
Speaking exclusively at a closed-door press conference with the Israel Diplomatic Correspondents Association, a U.S. top official swore to protect Israel from any attack that would come from Iran.
“We live this commitment every day, it’s something we do for Israel on a daily basis. We have an ally relationship. The word ‘ally’ means something to us. It means that if you are attacked, we will defend you. That is what an ally relationship means… We use that term sparingly,” the US defense official was quoted as saying by The Times Of Israel.
The official said that the U.S. government is shocked by Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s call to destroy Israel just within days after the Iran nuclear deal was inked.
“This is not the way a country should behave in today’s world. But that does not mean that we shouldn’t sign an agreement that reduces the risk of Iran becoming a nuclear state,” the official said.
The official defended the Iran deal signed by U.S. President Barack Obama.
“We do not expect Iran to radically change its behavior following the agreement. We are trying to deal with the nuclear issue and bring it to a level of transparency and visibility,” the official said. He explained that the deal decreases the need and likelihood of an attack, hence the U.S. signing it.
He however said that military action is always an option.
“It’s an option for the United States. It’s an option for Israel. But the goal is to have an agreement that makes a military attack less needed. But Israel has the right to self-defense. We understand that.”
Department of Energy Secretary, Ernest Moniz, has spoken in the same tune. He also defended the Iran nuclear deal as being one of the proponents of the agreement. He further highlighted that U.S. will never forget who its friends are in case a war will erupt.
“Make no mistake about it: This agreement does not change one iota who our friends and allies are in the region. It’s Israel, it’s the GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council], and maybe a couple of other Arab states in region. Those are our friends and allies,” Moniz said.
An open call to destroy Israel
Ali Khamenei has recently written and published a 416-page book detailing Iran’s plans of destroying the Israel Jewish State, Israel News reported. The book, according to Iranian-born critic Amir Taheri, details how Ali Khamenei is envisioning the abolishment of Israel.
“Khamenei insists that he is not recommending ‘classical wars’ to wipe Israel off the map. Nor does he want to ‘massacre the Jews.’ What he recommends is a long period of low-intensity warfare designed to make life unpleasant if not impossible for a majority of Israeli Jews so that they leave the country,” Taheri said as quoted by the Israel News.
“His calculation is based on the assumption that large numbers of Israelis have double-nationality and would prefer emigration to the United States and Europe to daily threats of death,” Taheri added.
