After her well-received debut on Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman’s stand-alone film is well underway. New footage from an Italian news source shows the Themyscira scenes currently being filmed in Matera, Italy.
Screen Rant reports that even after Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice got a bad rap from critics; Wonder Woman received cheers whenever she made her epic entrance in the film. She has been accused of stealing the limelight from the two other heroes, although this might be due to fans waiting to see her finally hit the big screen.
Wonder Woman, who is played by Gal Gadot, is first and foremost an Amazon from Greek mythology, which explains the set’s Mediterranean location. Since the upcoming Wonder Woman film is an origin story, it will tell the roots of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman before she ventured into the world of man.
In Themyscira, she will be trained as a warrior by her aunt General Antiope (Robin Wright) and taught to be a leader by her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), Queen of the Amazons. . It is also confirmed that pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) will be in the film.
Comicbook.com’s 30-second video clip from an Italian news source revealed the extensive set with a large cast for the scenes at Themyscira. The architecture and wardrobe resemble those from Ancient Greece. A young girl is also spotted standing in front of the camera, possibly a younger Diana due to her metallic armbands.
Being an origin story, Wonder Woman might offer little action outside Diana’s development from being an Amazonian princess to the superhero we know and love. Fans of Wonder Woman might be disappointed to see less action-packed scenes like those from Batman vs. Superman.
Even if the film shows a more innocent Diana, it will be interesting to see how she develops Wonder Woman’s fighting skills and powers that she effectively displays in Dawn of Justice.
