Hugh Jackman is set to begin filming his 3rd and apparently his last Wolverine Movie, “Wolverine 3”. Jackman knows it is impossible for him to take on the role forever and has already recommended possible replacements.
Screen Rant reported that Jackman will reprise the role as the clawed mutant one last time in the still untitled “Wolverine 3” movie. Jackman will be pairing with director James Mangold whom he also worked with on “The Wolverine.”
Jackman received the script last January and by the looks of it, Twentieth Century Fox is pulling no punches, intending the film to be R-rated following the successful release of Deadpool. It is suggested that the plot will take inspiration from the “Old Man Logan” comic series since the film will be set “in the future”, just how far into the future is not clear. This comes as no surprise given that producer Simon Kinberg said on the set of “X-Men: Apocalypse” that all upcoming X-Men films will be set in the future.
According to Cinemablend, Patrick Stewart will also be reprising his role as Logan’s mentor and father figure as Professor Charles Xavier in the movie. His return hints that the events of “Wolverine 3” will definitely occur after the events of the most recent films set in the 70s and 80s.
It is unclear if the film will set the stage for a new actor to take on the role of Wolverine in future X-Men films although it is undeniable that many fans will be sad to see “Old Man Jackman” as the Wolverine say goodbye.
Hugh Jackman has played the character since the successful X-Men franchise began and has been associated with Wolverine’s character for so long that it is almost unimaginable for another actor to take on the role.
