Free-agent forward Drew Gooden has confirmed his return to Washington Wizards in a one-year, $3.3 million deal, according to league sources.
The 33-year-old averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Wizards in the 2014-15 season. This is his third consecutive season for Wizards which reached the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, but were defeated by top-seeded Atlanta Hawks in a series that lasted for 6 games.
Gooden has averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in his 13 NBA seasons. The Washington Wizards decided to fill their 15th and final place in the roster with a familiar player, and forward Gooden became an obvious choice. For the past two seasons, Gooden played for a veteran’s minimum contract, as he was compensated by the amnesty money he received from the Milwaukee Bucks.
Like every other contracts the Wizards have signed this off-season, the Gooden contract won’t cut into their cap-space for 2016.
