With Windows 10 all set to roll out on eligible Lumia devices, Microsoft is improving its operating system for mobile phones. Microsoft recently released “Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14267 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.” The build is currently available only on three Lumia phones: Lumia 650, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Apart from these Windows 10 phones, Xiaomi Mi4 is also receiving the Insider Preview Build.
The Insider Preview Build 14267 was available for Lumia 550 as well but now the company has pulled it down. Reason? The phone is not charging via USB. Microsoft is investigating the same. You may expect the build to hit Lumia 550 as the issue is resolved. Now comes the real news. The build 14267 has brought along some wonderful improvements for your Windows 10 phones. What are they? Search music in cortana
An icon has been added to Cortana for music search. You can find the icon at the top right of the digital assistant on Windows 10 phones. ” You can now open Cortana and tap on the music search icon to have Cortana listen and search for the song that’s playing,” wrote Gabe Aul, Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team in an announcement post on Windows Blog.
Private browsing made easy
Finding InPrivate browsing on Microsoft Edge was a bit difficult on Windows 10 phones. With the release of Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14267, private browsing feature can now be easily found. The button has now been moved beside the “New Tab” which means InPrivate browsing now lies next to your tabs.
Microsoft Edge improvements
“For fans of Word Flow, we heard your feedback, and we have re-enabled the ability to use shape writing in the address bar in Microsoft Edge on your phone!” wrote Gabe Aul in the same post. He also mentioned that “Microsoft Edge will now show a prompt when you start a download, allowing you to cancel unwanted downloads.”
Tap on the paperclip icon on Skype to attach photos. Other than attaching, you can also start your web camera to click a picture and send it to a contact you are chatting with.
Apart from these improvements, Windows 10 phones will now be able to run 16 apps simultaneously. Earlier the phones were able to run only 8 apps at a time. With so many apps active at a time, will it affect the battery life of devices? Talking about the battery life issue, MSPowerUser in its report said, “Importantly, unless the apps have associated background activity this should not result in additional battery drain, though we hope Microsoft have done their home work when it comes to memory allocation and speed of task switching.” So, you do not have to worry about it. Hopefully, other Windows 10 phones receiving Windows 10 shortly will receive the operating system with these improvements.
