Wimbledon 2015 Day 2 Results: Federer, Nadal Register Easy Wins

Day 2 results of Wimbledon 2015 are here.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal kicked off their campaign with easy wins. Andy Murray also progressed to the next round.

2nd seed Federer is on the hunt for his record eighth title as he dismissed No. 88 Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.

Rafael Nadal shrugged off his French Open quarterfinal defeat against Djokovic to eke-out Brazilian left-hander Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and 10 minutes on a sweltering day on Court No. 1.

Nadal is due to clash with Dustin Brown in round two.

“It is difficult to think about how the match is going to be. He’s not a usual player. Anything can happen. He beat me last year at Halle. It is a little bit different, the surface and everything,” Nadal said of his second round opponent.

Andy Murray’s round 1 win wasn’t that smooth against Mikhail Kukushkin. After Murray won the first set, he had to survive some tricky moment in the second to pull off a 7-6 win. Finally Murray won 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.

“I missed about 10-11 first serves in a row so I gave him a chance to be aggressive. He made it very difficult for me. But I wasn’t surprised. He’s a tough player when he’s going for his shots,” 2013 Wimbledon champion said after the match.

13th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was pushed to five sets by Gilles Muller, finally defeating him 7-6 (10-8) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 3-6 6-2.

Briton Heather Watson survived three match points to win 1-6 6-3 8-6 over Caroline Garcia in the first round of women’s singles.

Petra Kvitova’s won over of Kiki Bertens in just 36 minutes.

The news of Williams sisters pulling out of women’s doubles was confirmed on Wednesday, though the reason remains unclear.
