The performance of “Straight Outta Compton” on the box office has been mesmerizing. The projected ticket sales have reached $56.1 million already in its first week. But according to the final reports, that’s not all in store for this film. The movie is most probably going to make it to the Oscars.
The NWA biopic which has garnered rave comments from both fans and critics is now being considered one of the most potential and first contender for Oscars next year. Universal also seems to have high hopes on this film that deals with the dramatic rise and subsequent fall of the popular hip-hop group, NWA.

Several motion pictures are invited for Oscar screening at the Academy. However, most of the lot plays to a mostly vacant Samuel Goldwyn Theatre which has a seat capacity of 1,012. In a long time, the scenario was seen to change completely during the screening of “Straight Outta Compton,” when the theater experienced around 80% to 85% attendance.
According to reports during the screening, the film was applauded and most of the members were impressed. At Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a score of 88% from critics, which is no doubt rare, and the audience has given 96% votes for the film.
This biopic is no doubt a bit different among general Oscar contenders. For many, it is quite gritty for Oscar standards. But the fact that the movie has gained great support from the audience as well as critics, it surely keeps this one a step ahead in the Oscar run.
As reported, according to one of the Academy members, the movie “succeeds as a studio picture, and is worth of some serious consideration.” However, this is really early to predict anything, because it is just the beginning of the season and there are still many movies to come.
