WhatsApp is the life of smartphones. Without this messaging app, I wonder how many of us will survive and how many of us will actually be able to personally keep in touch with each other. This nightmare is becoming a reality for some. Read on to know if whatsapp support is ending for your phone as well.
Technology is advancing but there are still people who are using old age phones. To keep these phones in demand, companies added Whatsapp support and many other apps to them. This hence does not allow the apps to introduce changes to such devices resulting into problems. Explaining why Whatsapp support will be ending for some phones, the company on WhatsApp Blog wrote,
“When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today. The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 percent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia. Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today – were on less than 25 percent of mobile devices sold at the time. As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use.”
To stick to its plan, WhatsApp support will end for the following phones:
- BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
- Nokia S40
- Nokia Symbian S60
- Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
- Windows Phone 7.1
When will WhatsApp Support for the phones listed above end? The date has not been given yet, but the blog has mentioned “by the end of 2016.” So if you are using any of these phones and are a fan of WhatsApp, you better upgrade your device. There are many budget phones out there that support almost all of the advanced technologies. Go get one.
