After days of teasing and building anticipation on social media, Taylor Swift has finally released the music video for her new single “Bad Blood.”
The singer premiered her part-post-apocalyptic, part-sci-fi music video on Sunday during the Billboard Music Awards. The star-studded music video includes big names such as Kendrick Lamar, Jessica Alba, Lena Dunham, Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Hayley Williams, and more.
Swift stars in the video as Catastrophe, who, together with Arsyn (played by Selena Gomez) begins with a spectacular fight scene. Gomez is seen kicking Swift out of a window, and Catastrophe’s plan for revenge begins.
Keen observers were quick to point out how the video was inspired by numerous action and science fiction flicks. In one scene, Swift trains inside an enclosed virtual space, reminiscent of the “Hunger Games” movies. In another, Jessica Alba rides with Swift on motorcycles that seemed to have been inspired by those from “Tron.”
Joseph Kahn, also responsible for the music video of “Blank Space,” directed the female-driven “Bad Blood.” Recently, he posted how he loves working with the popstar.

Swift pointed out that each actor in the video was given the chance to choose his or her own character name and personality.
Fun fact about #BadBloodMusicVideo:
Each individual actor/actress chose their character's name and persona.

Rumors abound that “Bad Blood” was inspired by Swift’s ongoing feud with another female singer she refuses to name. According to Swift, this female singer attempted to “sabotage an entire arena tour” by hiring “a bunch of people out from under me.”
TIME has written a textual analysis asking whether or not the female artist in question is Katy Perry, who still hasn’t won a Grammy. Taylor Swift, on the other hand, has seven of these trophies under her belt.
