Introducing Texas Senator Ted Cruz at a rally in Indiana, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina lost her footing and suffered a fall.
Referring to Cruz as “the next president of the United States,” the Texas Senator and Heidi Cruz emerged from behind the curtain at the event in Lafayette, Indiana. Fiorina slipped and fell while Cruz and his wife continued shaking hands with supporters.
People took to social media to criticize the Texas senator for ignoring his to-be running mate, should he win the nomination.
Republican front runner Donald Trump called the incident a “weird deal.”
“They just showed it to me, and I said, ‘Wow that’s really cruel,’ she fell off, she just went down,” the business mogul said, as reported by USA Today. “And she went down right in front of him and he was talking and he kept talking… That was a weird deal, man.”
The footage of the video of the incident soon went viral, and several users started asking Cruz why he ignored Fiorina, as reported by Yahoo News. However, a video captured from another angle shows Heidi Cruz being the first to notice Fiorina’s fall and reaching out to her; following which, Fiorina recovered and reemerged on the stage.
The Texas senator recently announced that Fiorina is his choice as vice president running mate should he win the nomination, as reported by Morning News USA.
On Monday, during a campaign stop in Marion, Indiana, Cruz was confronted by several Trump supporters who called him “Lyin’ Ted,” a name given to the Texas senator by Trump. Speaking to one supporter, Cruz said, “With all respect, Donald Trump is deceiving you. He is playing you for a chump.”
A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows Cruz lagging behind Trump by 15 points among Indiana’s Republican primary voters.
