Paramount has dropped a new trailer of the Brad Pitt- Marion Cotillard World War II thriller Allied hours after news of the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt divorce broke. However, whether the move is pure coincidence or a well-planned marketing strategy remains a matter of contention.
Nonetheless, the timing of the Allied trailer has set social media abuzz, with users praising or criticizing the move. Many even drew parallel with the Jolie and Pitt’s 2005 Mr & Mrs Smith, which was filmed amid rumors of their affair that led to the end of Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston.
Jolie cited irreconcilable differences between her and Pitt. There are reports that Jolie was upset with the Fight Club actor’s parenting styles and his addiction to alcohol and weed. Although rumors of a possible affair between Pitt and Cotillard surfaced following Jolie’s filing of divorce, the Gossip Cop reported that there is no verity to such rumors.
The newly dropped trailer features Pitt as an intelligence officer and Cotillard as a French Resistance fighter, who fall in love with each other behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany. The trailer is marked with steamy scenes between Pitt and Cotillard that play on their strong onscreen chemistry.
The Mail Online reported that memes followed minutes after the trailer was posted on Twitter, indicating the timing was not coincidental by any reason.
The plan to release the trailer on the internet before its official TV broadcast was made beforehand, the Mirror.co.uk reported. The trailer will air on Tuesday on NBC during theThis Is Us slot. The film directed by Robert Zemeckis releases in theaters on November 23.
“ALLIED is the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan (Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines.
