Just like her hit song “Problem,” Ariana Grande has caught the media’s attention with a problematic video that clearly shows the 22-year-old performer licking and spitting on donuts in a Riverside Country, California shop.
She also reacted ridiculously when a tray of donuts was placed in front of her by saying, “What the f**k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America.” On a July 4 night, it might have been her weird idea of paying tribute to her country and countrymen.
Shop owner Joe Martin, who obtained the video footage from a surveillance camera, shared the video with TMZ and told the Riverside Press Enterprise that Grande and her friend Ryan spat on the licked donuts, taking advantage of the absence of the employee whom she asked to show more choices. The shop owner also submitted the tape to the police and lodged a report, saying the donuts were intentionally tampered with.
Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Vasquez announced that they don’t believe a crime was committed. So apparently they won’t be investigating Grande. However, Riverside Country’s Department of Environmental Health has taken the matter seriously and investigated the doughnut shop, not Ariana, for food tampering. A department spokeswoman said the health inspector will find out whether the shop has a history of leaving food unprotected in front of public.
It is not Grande’s act but her comment in the video posted by TMZ that promoted backlash and as expected, it wasn’t long before she apologized in a statement. Ariana said, “I am extremely proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend Ryann, who was buying the doughnuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”
She also added, “As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole… However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.”
It is better that she learns how to move and act in a public place quickly. Otherwise, we may find her in another video soon.
