She is at the brink of reaching a fourth grand slam final, and at the brink of making history by clinching a calendar grand slam.
But Serena Williams will have to wait another day. The second women’s singles semifinal of the US Open between Williams and Roberta Vinci at Flushing Meadows has been postponed for a day due to forecast of heavy rains in New York.
The first semifinal between Simona Halep and Flavia Pennetta will kick-off on Friday. The Williams match will follow the first semifinals.
The postponement of the first semifinals also means that the men’s semifinal shall start later on Friday. Novak Djokovic will play the first against reigning champion Marin Cilic in the first, with the second one being all-Swiss between Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.
Jamie Murray Reaches Doubles Final
His brother being one of the favorites in Men’s singles, Andy Murray bowed out of the tournament. Jamie Murray and John Peers have reached the doubles final of US Open. This is the second grand slam final for Murray in 3 months. Peers, though, have been omitted from the Australian Davis Cup side.
They defeated unseeded fellow Americans Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, a pair buoyed by their first-round win over one of he best pairs, Bob and Mike Bryan.
Murray-Peers will now face Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the finals.
In mixed doubles section, Leander Paes from India and Martina Hingis from Switzerland have reached the finals. Veteran Hingis also made it into the finals of Women’s doubles with Sania Mirza of India. The Swiss won the Wimbledon in both the sections with her respective Indian partners, Paes and Mirza.
