The majority of the Grand Slam crowns are notched up by a market leader, whether in men or women’s discipline, both singles and doubles. In the last decade, the men’s title was won twice by an outsider, compared to the one and only such win from the women’s singles.
At the Flushing Meadows, Roger Federer has been the most prolific winner of recent times, clinching consecutive titles from 2005-08. Rafa Nadal, currently running short of form and fitness, won it twice in 2010 and 13.
Top seeded Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, fierce contenders of this season’s title, have also won the title.
And one can’t rule out 2014 winner, outsider Marin Cilic. Juan del Potro, in 2009, was another who produced another stunning result.
As expected, world number one Djokovic dominates the betting at 11/10., while second favorite second favorite Murray is currently 4/1.
World’s No 1 Serena Williams is the dominant force of the last ten editions of the competition. The four-time champion in the past 8 years – including the last three consecutive years – is a hot favorite to clinch the title this time.
