Retired neurosurgeon Dr Ben Carson is running for the 2016 elections as President of the United States. His official announcement is originally scheduled on Monday, but he already told a local news station about his plans for the US Elections 2016.
Ben Carson is announcing his presidential candidacy
“I’m willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America,” Carson declared during an exclusive interview with WKRC Cincinnati.
“Many people have suggested to me that I should run for president, even though I’m not a politician.
“I began to ask myself why are people clamoring for me to do this? I represented a lot of the same thoughts that they have. I’m not 100% sure ‘politics as usual’ is going to save us. I think we are in a severe problem… a problematic situation,” he said.
Carson described himself as “a reluctant warrior” and admits he does not have all the solutions to the problem of the nation.
“You must have enough humility to be able to work with others to recognize you’re not necessarily the expert in everything. But you can with very good advice, make good decisions.”
Carson became a name in the political arena when he denounced president Barack Obama’s health care policy during a 2013 speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. During his speech, he said that Obamacare is the worst thing to happen in America “since slavery.” He once was compelled to withdraw a speaking engagement at Johns Hopkins after making the controversial remark linking same-sex marriage to pedophilia. In March, he was also obliged to make a public apology when he said that the experience of men in prison confirmed that homosexuality is a choice.
In order to be ready for his candidacy despite his lack of experience, Carson spent hours studying about domestic and foreign policy at the Heritage Foundation. He also attended media training to soften his provocative language.
