Proxy Syria War Could Result In War Between Russia And The US, Turkey Warns

Tension rises manifold between the US and Russia as the latter continues to back Syrian President Bashar al-Assad despite repeated appeals to the regime by the US and its western allies to step down.

Relations between the US and Russia soured since the Ukrainian conflict in March 2014, and it has not improved ever since.

Signs of bitterness engulfing the two nations became more apparent when Russia decided to suspend the joint research venture with the US on nuclear energy projects earlier this month.

Also, the US Secretary of State John Kerry called for a war-crime investigation on Moscow alleging the Russian capital and the President al-Assad’s regime of deliberately bombing hospitals in Aleppo.

As reported by Daily Mail, 12 civilians have lost their lives as a result of Russian airstrikes, bringing the death toll to 45 in 24 hours.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that at least 5 children died in rebel-held district of Marjeh in east Aleppo on Monday. The organization also claimed that there were dozens more who were wounded and some were still trapped under the rubble.

“Of the 45 civilians killed, the highest number of dead were in Qaterji, where Russian raids claimed 17 lives overnight,” said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus has expressed his opinion about the Syria war following the attack in Aleppo. He suggested that if the Syrian conflict is not resolved at the earliest, it could result in the beginning of World War Three.

“If this proxy war continues, after this, let me be clear,” said Kurtulmus, “America and Russia will come to a point of war.”

The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his fear that the rancor between the US and Russia could put the world “on the brink of the beginning of a large regional or global war”.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi and Kurdish forces, backed by the Us-led coalition, launched a major operation on Monday with a view to recapture the northern city of Mosul from the ISIS, reported the Independent.

The Turkish Deputy PM announced that Turkey is ready to take in hundreds of thousands of refugees from Mosul if the operation gives rise to sectarian violence.

“If the Mosul operation is handled correctly, there won’t be a refugee wave into Turkey,” Mr Kurtulmus told a news conference in Ankara.
