President Donald Trump has been a vocal critic of Obamacare for the longest time and even got votes from republicans by saying it would be “so easy” to eliminate. However, it looks like the current president is now content with “letting Obamacare fail” by itself, saying that the democrats will go to the republicans for a new health bill. This is a result of senators not willing to sign off on a new bill or eliminate the Affordable Health Care act.
“It’ll be a lot easier,” Mr. Trump said at the White House, adding: “We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We’ll let Obamacare fail, and then the Democrats are going to come to us.” Trump was never a fan of Obamacare, but it seems like the act won’t be going away anytime soon, even though he is the President of the United States.
“This has been a very, very challenging experience for all of us,” Mr. McConnell said. “Everybody’s given it their best shot, and as of today, we just simply do not have 50 senators who can agree on what ought to replace the existing law.” It was an odd moment for them, since the people who rapidly attacked Obama’s health care act could not come up with an act that can please both political parties.
While he can’t get rid of it right away, Trump can make life hard for people that support the bill. According to NY Times, he could throw insurance markets into a tailspin at any time by cutting off the subsidy payments to insurers, as he has threatened to do. He could further destabilize the markets by not enforcing the mandate that most Americans have health insurance.
