Tom Cruise hung on to an airbus A400 during takeoff and landing for the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.” Cruise, who plays spy Ethan Hunt, could have died after a small particle of stone hit him on the rib.

Cruise shared he had always wondered about being out there on the wings of the planes he rode as a passenger.
“I’ve often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought, ‘What it would be like out there on the wing?’” Cruise told USA Today.
Finally, he had the chance to hang outside a flying airplane for a stunt in the movie “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.”
While he found the experience nerve-wracking, he shared he could have died while doing the stunt.
“While we are going down the runway, we’re worried about bird strikes, any kind of particle that the propellers could pick up, any kind of stone. I remember I got hit by a stone that was so tiny, you cannot believe. I thought it broke my rib. Lucky it went to my vest and not my hands or my face, it would have penetrated and gone right through,” Cruise shared.
Another concern was whether or not the camera would be able to handle the speed at which the plane was flying. There was a possibility that the camera will shutter, and fragments could run through his head.

Director Christopher McQuarrie would’ve taken responsibility if anything happened to Cruise during the shoot.
“I was responsible for what happened if he got hit by a bird, it was pretty nerve-racking. We’re looking at each other trying to hear each other over that noise. I thought to myself that no one has ever done this before. And I don’t know what’s going to happen next. And I got on the plane and called ‘Action.’ We’ll see what people think,” the director said.
“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” will be coming to theaters on July 31.
