Inside a newly opened ice cream parlour in New York, frozen treats are getting boozed up. After all, the place is called Tipsy Scoop.
Tipsy Scoop has been around for some time now, but it’s only recently that it decided to open the very first ice cream parlour that serves ice cream creations with alcohol. And since it’s an ice cream parlour that serves booze, you can’t help but call it a ‘barlour’ instead.
Melissa Tavas, Tipsy Scoop’s founder, is very passionate about what she offers her customers. The idea came to her after spending years working in marketing for a number of liquor brands. In fact, over time, Tavas knew exactly how to add alcohol into just about anything. “We planned a lot of launch parties for clients and asked caterers to infuse everything with alcohol, from raspberry liquor crepes to bourbon wings,” Tavas told Forbes.
And so, it did not take long before Tavas to decide turning this into a business. Instead of offering various kinds of foods, however, Tavas thought she’d concentrate on one item: ice cream. After all, her great grandfather happens to be the former President of the Ice Cream Alliance in Great Britain.
Tavas launched Tipsy Scoop just three years ago. As she primarily catered to events, Tavas introduce her homemade alcohol infused recipe. ” Some homemade ice cream [already] uses alcohol to soften the ice cream. I thought it would be so cool for the ice cream to actually have an alcohol content.”
When Tavas makes her ice cream, the alcohol freezes in it. That’s why her frozen creations have up to five percent alcohol content. Tipsy Scoop’s ice cream creations started becoming available in various gourmet New York grocery stores. These include Morton Williams, Gristedes and Whole Foods. Today, Tipsy Scoop patrons have a new place to hang out, thanks to its new barlour.
Tipsy Scoop has a number of wonderful ice cream flavors that proudly features booze.
When you visit, be sure to try some of Tipsy Scoop’s incredible flavors, including the Maple Bacon Bourbon, “Hot” Buttered Rum, Spiked Mint Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel, Red Velvet Martini, Spiked Hazelnut Coffee and more. Don’t worry, you’ve got all day to try everything. The shop is open until 9 PM.
