‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8: Elena Back, New Villain Coming

The “Vampire Diaries” season 8 will attempt to finally answer two key questions, which have perhaps given the series’ legion of fans a lot of sleepless nights:  Is Elena (Nina Dobrev) really making a comeback on the show? Who – or what – is the new villain that is posing a major threat to the vampires of Mystic Falls?

In the show’s season 7 finale, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey)were able to enter the Armory, enabling them to finally kill the Everlasting, and free Bonnie (Kat Graham) from her desire to eradicate her vampire friends, according to TV Line.

However, things take on a different turn when Damon and Enzo go on a killing spree in the West Coast, a development which has greatly alarmed Stefan (Paul Wesley).

Are all of these events related? What are they leading to? Could Elena still be alive?

TVLine sat down with “The Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec to find out what fans of the series could expect from season 8.

Queried on what entity was responsible for Damon and Enzo’s reprehensible act, Plec refused to put a label to it.

“We are not calling it anything, we are waiting for Season 8,” the show runner said. “I mean, internally, we’re calling it something, but we’re not telling people what that is yet. “

It seemed that she wanted to keep fans guessing until the show will finally reveal the villains true identify.

“It’s funny, this is the first time we’ve done this little story trick where we’re actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season,” she explained.  “What could it be that’s been around for thousands of years?”

“We didn’t see it, but it has some creepy ass monster hands, and it has the ability to get inside your heard and strip away everything good about you,” Plec added.  “There’s a nice mystery taking us into next season about what exactly this creature is.”

In the meantime, Nina Dobrev’s short cameo in the season 7 finale has given her followers hope that she will be making a comeback on the show, according to Movie News Guide.

Although her return has not yet been confirmed by studio executives, her return in “Vampire Diaries” season 7 remains a very strong possibility.
