Bethesda marketing vice-president Pete Hines has put a stamp on the rumors surrounding Elder Scrolls 6 release date. Hines recently took to social media to dismiss speculation claiming Bethesda is already working on the Skyrim sequel.
At E3 2016, fans of the popular fantasy franchise went nuts after Bethesda director Todd Howard said there will be another Elder Scrolls game in the future. Many took Howard’s statement to mean that the company has already started development for Elder Scrolls 6. Hines recently argued that that’s simply not the case.
Responding to an anxious Twitter follower over the weekend, Hines said, “We aren’t working on TES6 at the moment.”
Game Spot indicated that Hines may be referring to the game’s full production. Pre-production usually starts years before developers ultimately decide to work on a project. Bethesda may have already started pre-production for the game but have yet to hit the ground running as far as actual game development is concerned.
Both developers seem to agree on one thing: it will take a very long time before fans will hear anything official about the possible Elder Scrolls 6 release date For his part, Howard said technology hasn’t caught up yet with what developers have in mind for the game.
“We think very long term. We’re not a developer that’s going to rush something like this out,” Howard told IGN. “When you think about what is the future of that kind of game, we have a pretty good idea of what that’s going to be, and it’s just going to take technology and time we don’t necessarily have right now.”
