The Avengers movies have been introducing more and more Marvel characters to the big screen. The upcoming two-part third installment, Avengers: Infinity War, will stay true to that tradition. There are also talks about making Thanos the main antagonist.
The Russo brothers’ earlier comments about Avengers: Infinity War having 67 characters have stirred the Marvel fanbase. With Captain America: Civil War and now, Infinity War, many are freaking out about the sheer number of comic book characters being pumped out. The writers of both films have stepped in to explain the details about the directors’ comments.
According to The Huffington Post’s interview with writers, the comments only involve those characters who have already been introduced. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explained that if the amount of characters introduced, the total would add up to approximately 60-70, not including new ones.
With the misunderstanding out of the way, the writers gave fans something to anticipate. Screen Rant reported that after four years since his first appearance in a film, Thanos will get to be the main antagonist in Infinity War.
The writers believe it is easy to give the character good scenes. Since he has never really gotten more than a few seconds of screen time, they thought it is vital and fun to make him the main villain. Many are waiting for Thanos to live up to the ominous theme of his appearances in other Marvel films.
Thanos, voiced by Josh Brolin, has already made cameo appearances in Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy. This has easily made Thanos the most teased villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. All the teasing will come to an end when Brolin reprises his role on May of 2018 when Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is released.
