Teen Choice Awards 2015 kicked off with “an explosive and refined” performance from Aussie group 5 Seconds of Summer’s “She’s Kinda Hot,” a report from CNN says.
Ellen Degeneres was the first recipient of the Awards with “Choice Comedian,” following the performance. And just after receiving the award, the TV show host cracked jokes and left with a message saying, “I didn’t used to feel chosen.”
The second award given was Choice Movie Actor for Sci-Fi and teens may have had designed such to accommodate nominees Chris and Liam Hemswoth. But ultimately, it was Josh Hutcherson who went home with the award.
Audience got awed with Little Mix’s performance of their hit “Black Magic,” which reflected the group’s music video. Little Mix’s performance at the Teen Choice Award only meant the artists are versatile and could do almost anything. They won the Choice Music Breakout Artist, their first from the U.S.
Candie’ style icon award
Teens gave Britney Spears the Candie’s Style Icon award and the singer was introduced by Fifth Harmony. Teen Choice Award played a footage showing Spears’ previous appearances and awards with TCA.
One Direction swept off eight awards
One Direction was TCA’s biggest winner with eight awards, including Choice International Artist, Choice Music Group for Male, and Choice Song for Group.
Other awardees included Fifth Harmony and Taylor Swift with multiple awards, Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa and Shawn Mendes.
