Ramsay Snow or Ramsay Bolton, a character from the “Game of Thrones,” is among the most hated. He is a sadist. He finds joy and entertainment in flaying his enemies alive. But while Ramsay is a fictional character, his sordid pastime was channel by the deadly Taliban as it skinned a man alive after gouging his eyes out.
Fazl Ahmad, 21, a laborer, died in the hands of Taliban in pure Ramsay Bolton style. He was hauled from his house; his eyes gouged.
While still screaming in agony, very much alive, the Taliban began flaying him alive until his heart was exposed.
According to witnesses who shared the story with The Washington Post, his body was then thrown from a 10-story cliff.
The appalling and horrific deed was done by the Taliban as the rebel group sought revenge for their commander who was allegedly killed by Ahmad’s relative.
“They skinned him alive,” Ruqiya Naeel was quoted as saying.
According to some culture experts, the incident was a manifestation of how Afghans view revenge. What happened to Ahmad has little to do with the war in the region but more of a practice deeply rooted in Afghanistan’s culture of revenge.
“People want to settle old scores. You can hardly find any house that does not own a gun because of the war, and people use a gun even for a minor issue,” said Najib Mahmood, a law professor at Kabul University.
While the incident might be the most ruthless display of force by the Taliban, it seems worst is yet to come.
On Saturday, Reuters reported that Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri already pledged allegiance to the new chief of the Afghan Taliban.
Al-Zawahri has been leading the Al Qaeda since 2011, after the US Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden.
“As leader of the al Qaeda organization for jihad, I extend my pledge of allegiance once again, the approach of Osama to invite the Muslim nation to support the Islamic Emirate,” al-Zawahri was quoted as saying by Reuters.
