Stephen King’s novel series “The Dark Tower” is finally underway after many years and attempts. The author has confirmed that the adaptation will star British actor and musician Idris Elba as the gunslinger. American actor and producer Matthew McConaughey will portray the mystical enemy known as the man in black.
Both King and the film’s director and writer Nikolaj Arcel spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the plan to start adapting the tale. The author stated, “The thing is, it’s been a looong trip from the books to the film.
“When you think about it, I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little sh-tty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now.” King laughed then said, “I’m delighted, and I’m a little bit surprised.”
Bustle claims that the work of Elba speaks for itself. The performance of the actor in “Beasts Of No Nation” recently won him an Independent Spirit Award. Elba also had nominations at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs. Elba’s portrayal of drug lord and aspiring businessman Russell in the HBO series “The Wire” made him a fantastic actor.
King says “The Dark Tower” movie will fire up using the first line of the first book. Sony Pictures plan to release the film in theaters on January 13, 2017.
