The Charlotte Hornets could use a big boost next season and two players that they could target are Steph Curry and Paul Millsap. Of the two, getting hold of the back-to-back MVP seems like a shot in a million but then again anything can happen.
The Craziest Scenario Involving Steph Curry
Steph Curry may likely end his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors though a possible move to his hometown could be interesting. Although it is a long shot, the only way Curry can end up playing for the Charlotte Hornets is to move their current guards.
This means that the likes of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams and Kemba Walker would have to be moved, a gigantic sacrifice that may seem crazy. There is also Ramon Sessions who they can opt not to pick up, wiping out their entire guard line.
A More Realistic Target In Millsap
Moving on, the Hornets could realistically make a go at Paul Millsap. Prying him away from the Atlanta Hawks also seem improbable but the chances for Steve Clifford getting him are better compared to Curry.
Millsap is set to become an unrestricted free agent next Summer and could be ‘the guy’ to fill up the lacking defensive matrix the Hornets need. He is a fundamentally sound and durable player that could help out in the Hornets’ campaign so expect the Charlotte to make a serious run at him next Summer.
A lot of these dream deals would depend on how the 2016-17 NBA season for all teams — Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets — pans out. The Warriors are of course the unrealistic scenario with Curry unlikely to have reason to leave.
Hence, keep an eye out for Millsap instead. If he does fail to hit it well with Dwight Howard, he could be the odd man out if the Hawks aren’t careful. The Hornets could use a shot in the arm but a more feasible target may be needed.
