Fans and collectors of the Star Wars franchise need not wait any longer. They will soon have the copies of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in April.
Robert Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive at The Walt Disney Company, announced at the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders that the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” movie will be available on Digital HD and Disney Movies anywhere on April 1. It will also be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack on April 5.
“The Star Wars: The Force Awakens” film smashed box office records upon its debut. No wonder fans are eagerly waiting for the chance to have their own copies of the film. The motion picture grossed over $926 million domestic and $2.05 billion globally. The movie featured new heroes and villains, along with classic characters and a heartfelt story – the complete formula for success, that had been loved by generations of fans.
Indeed, the film became the fastest film to grab the billion-dollar mark, according to a separate announcement made by Disney in December. It became the No. 2 movie of 2015 to date and got the No. 5 spot for movie of all time at the domestic box office. The film has set records, including the biggest worldwide debut with $529 million; the biggest IMAX worldwide debut of $48 million and it is the fastest film to cross $100M globally in IMAX.
During Thursday’s announcement, Chairman and Chief Executive Iger also announced that Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts will also launch the new Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. He also welcomed Disney’s two newest Board members – Maria Elena Lagomasino, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of WE Family offices and Mark Parker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nike.
