Local authorities in Oceanside, San Diego arrested a woman who allegedly hit and dragged her victim’s body for a mile. The body lodged in the car’s windshield before the suspect walked out as if nothing happened.
Police reports show that Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga, 29, also known as Stacy Sanchez, was driving along Mission Avenue in San Diego county early Monday when she hit the victim on the sidewalk. Because of the speed of Sanchez’ vehicle, the victim hit the car’s windshield on the passenger’s side, KBSW News reported.
The impact was so intense the victim’s leg detached from the body, which was dragged for about a mile. The suspect continued driving before she parked her vehicle in the village’s cul-de-sac. The neighbors then called the police to report the incident.
The police did not disclose the identity of the victim as of posting, while Sanchez will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Local authorities are conducting further investigations on the case.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least 28 people die each day in the United States via vehicle related accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
CDC, however, noted that there are things individuals can do in order to avoid accidents. For individuals who are attending social functions, it’s wise to assign a designated driver of the group and make it a point not to allow drunk drivers behind the wheel.
“If you’re hosting a party where alcohol will be served, remind your guests to plan ahead and designate their sober driver; offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure all guests leave with a sober driver,” the CDC noted, adding that for those who drink or use drugs, it is recommended to find a ride home or call a cab.
