Moda Center’s game on Wednesday’s night was nationally televised. Former Portland Trail Blazers’ LaMarcus Aldridge took charge against his former team to lift San Antonio Spurs to a 113-101 win. Aldridge also handed his former side their third straight loss on his first return to Portland.
Aldridge was booed by the crowd every moment he touched the ball, but motivated himself to return with 23 points and six rebounds. He registered four turnovers, and scored 9-for-18 from the field.
“It was emotional. I have nothing but love for this city. I have so many memories in this arena so it was hard for me out there,” said an emotional Aldridge after the game. He had a long 9-year stint at Portland and was an All-star in the last four seasons. Aldridge set a franchise record in rebounds while being second to Clyde Drexler in terms of points.
“I definitely heard the cheers of the fans that showed me love and still supported me. And I heard the fans that were mad, and rightfully so. It might have been like 70-30 cheers to boos,” Aldridge added.
Kawhi Leonard posted 20 points to help Spurs win its third straight on a row.
Spurs were slightly ahead after the first quarter and led 58-46 at half-time.
