San Antonio Spurs are discussing with Cleveland Cavaliers over the non-guaranteed contract of Brendan Haywood, according to San Antonio Express-News. Acquiring the contract would help the Spurs in their quest for LaMarcus Aldridge. Haywood has a unique contract structure that allows a team to acquire it for the actual outgoing salary and then immediately waive him without counting on their cap-sheet.
Haywood’s contract, which the Spurs are seeking, has a trade value of $10.5 million. The Cavs intend to shop off Haywood to add another star in their roster. The Spurs are a logical trade partner for Haywood’s contract.
The Spurs are trying to create cap space to sign LaMarcus Aldridge by trading off Tiago Splitter. Patty Mills and Boris Diaw are other candidates up for trade in pursuit of Aldridge.
