Spring has unveiled a Sprint-exclusive special edition of the upcoming HTC One M8 flagship smartphone that features audio technology from Harman/Kardon as well as a new partnership with music streaming service Spotify to bring cheaper Premium rates to their Framily plan subscribers.
The special edition HTC One M8 will feature two audio technologies from Harman/Kardon called Clari-Fi and LiveStage. Clari-Fi is able to analyze an audio track in real time through algorithms and restore lost high- and low-end frequencies that are usually lost during compression. LiveStage, on the other hand, is able to simulate multiple audio channels to emulate a larger sound stage and enhance surround-sound audio. According to Harman/Kardon CEO Dinesh Paliwal, these two technologies combine to provide a “richer listening experience for the user.”
Additionally, the HTC One M8 Harman Kardon edition is also capable of playing 24-bit, 192kHZ lossless .FLAC files. The phone’s design is also slightly different, the rear of the device is darker and the rest of the device has a “champagne” trim to it. The rest of the phone, including the internals, is identical to the standard HTC One M8 including the 5-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM.
The HTC One M8 Harman Kardon edition will be available starting next week on May 9th at all Sprint stores as well as select specialty audio dealers. The special edition smartphone will cost $230 on contract. The special edition phone will also come with a pair of Harman/Kardon earbuds that are valued at around $149.
Sprint also unveiled a new partnership with Spotify to offer Sprint Framily plan subscribers six month of free Premium Spotify service as well as a discounted monthly rate, after the free six months, of $7.99 per month for Framily plan customers with one to five lines and $4.99 for those with six to ten lines. For comparison, the usual monthly rate for a Premium Spotify account is $10 per month. Sprint announced that the new offers will be available to Sprint subscribers starting on May 9th.
