Space Jam 2, the sequel to the 1996 basketball flick, will star LeBron James, as previously reported. However, Michael Jordan – the star of the original movie – would prefer to see Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin in the lead role.
The Big Lead argues that Griffin would do good as the lead actor: “Griffin is an accomplished comedic actor and has been working with Funny or Die. He has the public standing and chops to carry the movie. There’s also another reasonable explanation for why MJ would name the Clippers forward: a shared interest in furthering the Jordan brand,” writes Kyle Koster.
James has previously starred in Trainwreck.

Earlier this week, James told Sports Illustrated in an interview that he was “chasing the ghost” of Michael Jordan and wanted to position himself to go down as the greatest of all-time.
“My career is totally different than Michael Jordan’s. What I’ve gone through is totally different than what he went through. What he did was unbelievable, and I watched it unfold. I looked up to him so much,” the four-time MVP said during the extensive interview.
“I think it’s cool to put myself in position to be one of those great players, but if I can ever put myself in position to be the greatest player, that would be something extraordinary,” added James.
Last year, the LeBron James-owned SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. spanning all areas of content creation. “We hope (Space Jam 2 can happen). We’re definitely missing Bugs and Daffy and Tasmanian Devil and every last one of them, so hopefully we can do some great things,” James said last year.
