Sony has unveiled its new selfie-centric smartphone – the Xperia C3 – which the company calls the “world’s best selfie smartphone” which features a powerful “PROselfie” front-facing camera and Sony’s line of camera apps and features.
“Xperia C3 is a unique new smartphone from Sony, created to offer the ultimate social sharing experience with a new powerful ‘PROselfie cam’. It also presents a combination of the best of Sony, with leading digital imaging technology and brilliant specs and performance all for a mid-range price” says Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications.
The Xperia C3’s PROselfie camera is a 5-megapixel camera with a wide-angle 20mm lens with an 80-degree field of view. The C3’s front-facing camera is even coupled with an LED soft flash. To complement this system, the C3 allows users to take photos with the front-facing camera by simply double tapping the phone’s back cover or using Sony’s Smile Shutter feature.
The Xperia C3’s other camera is an 8-megapixel camera with Sony’s Exmor RS mobile image sensor. It’s capable of shooting 1080p HD video coupled with Sony’s SteadyShot for smoother and distortion-less video. Both the front and rear cameras both feature Superior Auto that automatically recognizes four scene types by the front camera and up to 36 scenes by the rear camera. Superior Auto also automatically switches HDR on and off.
Other camera features include Portrait Retouch V2, Timeshift-burst, Picture effects, Movie Creator, Social live, and Sweep Panorama.
The C3’s other features include a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720) IPS TRILUMINOS display with Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 2, a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, expandable storage up to an extra 32GB via microSD, and a 2,500mAh battery. Connectivity-wise, the C3 supports 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. Lastly, it runs the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.
