Skype for iPhone is taking advantage of the interactive notifications feature inherent in iOS 8, the latest update of Apple Inc’s mobile operating system. The latest update of the app that was released on Monday (September 22) includes a unique feature that enables users to take action even from the lock screen.
Through the notification center, a user can perform actions like answering voice and video calls, jumping to text conversations, and replying to all. This makes this version of the chat service different from its other mobile versions in the past iOS and in Android.
How it works
To use the app from the lock screen, just swipe left on a particular notification if you want to check out new options available; from the same notification, swipe down to reveal similar options. After selecting an option, the app would launch for the completion of the action.
To answer an incoming call, simply opt to answer using either voice or video. It is also possible to ring back the caller every time you receive a missed call or you could opt to simply send him/her a message. As for receiving a message, just jump right to the corresponding text box to make the reply.
More new features upcoming
In a blog post, the Microsoft Corp-owned app hinted that it would still take more advantages of other new integrations that are offered in iOS 8 in the coming releases. Skype also expressed its excitement over offering this new and unique feature.
Skype is also encouraging new and better ideas or suggestions from its loyal users. It is now open to accepting or receiving such ideas through its Skype iOS Ideas Group so it could collect those suggestions and from there set actions or responses to make the service more interesting and useful to its users.
As of press time, it is not clear yet if the interactive notifications feature would also be introduced to the Skype version for Android and other mobile operating systems. However, it is just logical that such capability would only be available only if the OS would allow it.
