On Monday, a woman was found dead in her Pennsylvania home, along with her 12-month-old baby boy. Identified as Sheri Shermeyer, 40, she is assumed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her son, who celebrated his first birthday on December 8th, was found dead, probably due to asphyxiation.
The bodies were discovered by State Police when they were conducting a welfare check, at about 1 p.m. as reported by Fox 8. The two dead bodies were found in the woman’s Shrewbury Township house.
Statement By The Police
Officials believe that Shermeyer suffocated her son to death before she took her own life. Autopsies of both the dead bodies will be done on Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. The incident is still being investigated by the Police.
The Suicide Note
Inside Edition reported Sheri Shermeyer as having posted a note on Facebook just two hours before she apparently shot herself. Her post read, “I want you to know that I LOVE John Russell more than anything in this world. I always thought of myself to be a strong person. I’ve been through Hell and back and still had a smile. I’ve lost too many people; family, friends, pets, jobs etc. But as of late I don’t feel so strong. I have been slowly dying inside.”
She went on to say that she would never allow her husband to see her son again. “You will never see your son again. You don’t deserve to have a son, to have a legacy. Why should you have your name carried on? … Just hate it had to end this way.”
Her Facebook friends urged her not to harm herself, while others actually called the police so they could check on her.
Reactions of Friends
Everyone was devastated to hear of the two deaths. One of Sheri Shermeyer friends wrote, “She was an amazing person and we just saw them for John’s first birthday a few weeks ago. This is a tragedy and I myself cannot believe this.”
Another post by one of her friends read, “You are both beautiful souls who will be dearly missed.”
