Actress and singer Selena Gomez opened up for the first time about old flame Justin Bieber and the purity rings she already stopped wearing. In an interview with UK’s Sunday Times, the 23-year-old pop singer from Texas said fans have difficulty accepting the reality she is over with Bieber.
“It’s difficult for people to separate us. The Internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it,” the artist quipped as quoted by Yahoo.
But while the Internet databases still display photos and stories about Jelena and people still long for the two to get back together, Gomez is confident neither interferes with her private life and career.
“I didn’t think I was doing anything bad by falling in love,” Gomez said. Bieber and Gomez became a couple in 2010 and the public knew their romance was rocky.
“There’s such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it’s good press,” Gomez added and continued that her young age contributed negatively to the equation.
“Throw in the fact that you are a teenager—it makes it more difficult,” she said in a straightforward tone.
On purity ring
Gomez narrated her father helped her got the purity ring – which she wore when she was with Nick Jonas who also wore the same ring – to signify she will only give up virginity after a marriage vow.
But that changed when she met Bieber. Gomez no longer wears the purity ring.
“I’m not embarrassed to say that the ring has come off… I was 13 and I respect so much what it represented, but it isn’t for everyone,” the artist explained.
Selena Gomez is not dating anyone and being in another romantic relationship is something she does not want as of now. But when it comes, she will truly value it.
“The next relationship will be something dear to me. There is no way I will ever hide my life,” she said.
