On July 25, the Satanic Temple, a non-theistic religious organization dedicated to Satanic practices and promotion of Satanic rights, unveiled its Baphomet monument at a secret location. The occasion, of which the group calls The Unveiling, served as a “call-to arms” to individuals who will join its fight for the rights to “free exercise against self-serving theocrats.”
The Unveiling of the Baphomet monument
No media representative was able to infiltrate the private event held at a secret location. Only those who purchased the tickets knew about the venue prior to the event. Taking photos was strictly prohibited but VIP ticketholders had exclusive opportunity to take photos while sitting on the controversial Baphomet monument.
“Come dance with the Devil and experience history in the making,” the Satanic Temple said in an invitation prior to the event.
In the days leading up to The Unveiling, the group described the monument as “politically charged contemporary work of art in the world.” It weighs one ton, stands nine feet tall and made with bronze. The group said the Baphomet “stands as a testament to plurality and the power of collective action.” Elsewhere, it was viewed as the sign that Satan had risen.

In the morning of July 25, a Holy Mass was held at St Joseph Church to pray for Detroit as The Unveiling will happen in the night. According to the Detroit News, the mass was held to counter the rise of the Baphomet. Two hundred to 250 people attended and prayed together in the hopes to stop the event.
However, The Unveiling took place successfully as proven by photos posted via The Satanic Temple’s Facebook Page.
