Controversial political figure Sarah Palin has attracted controversy again with her recent gaffe: suggesting immigrants to speak “American” while in America. Her comment was aimed at Jeb Bush who sometimes speaks Spanish during some of his campaigns. However, she now finds herself at the receiving end of her own criticism. The joke was suddenly on her.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Trapper that aired Sunday on “State of the Union,” Palin said that Bush benefits from his being fluent. “We have a large and wonderful Hispanic population building America, and that’s a great connection he has with them,” she said. Palin, however, continued saying that “on the other hand, I think we can send a message and say, ‘You want to be in America, A, you’d better be here legally or you’re out of here. B, when you’re here, let’s speak American.”
Perhaps realizing that “American” is not a language she corrected herself. “Let’s speak English, and that’s a kind of a unifying aspect of the nation is the language that is understood by all,” she said.
Palin’s interview with CNN was focused on her seeking a position in a Donald Trump administration. She wants to be the Energy Secretary – an energy secretary that would “get rid of the energy department.”
“I’d get rid of (the Energy Department). If I were in charge of that, it would be a short-term job, but it would be … really great to have someone who knows energy and is pro-responsible development to be in charge,” Palin said.
This latest Palin gaffe opened a can of worms of her already long list of gaffe in the past. Here is Morning News USA’s most favorites of all Sara Palin quotes:
When she said that people do not elect presidents but God does – “… [it] strengthens my faith, because I’m going to know, at the end of the day, putting this in God’s hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4. So I’m not discouraged at all…. and I can feel it too, Dr. Dobson. I can feel the power of prayer, and that strength that is provided through our prayer warriors across this nation.”
When she advised President Barack Obama on how to deal with Russian president Vladimir Putin in March 8, 2014 – “Mr. President, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke.”
When she made an analogy like this at a Tea Party rally in Iowa on Sept. 3, 2011 – “Polls are for strippers and cross-country skiers”
When she defended her being a “literacy genius” in July 18 2010 – “‘Refudiate,’ ‘misunderestimate,’ ‘wee-wee’d up.’ English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!'”
Finally when she quits and said this in July 3, 2009 – “Only dead fish go with the flow.”
