Sara Ramirez finally confirmed that she’s leaving “Grey’s Anatomy.” She’s leaving the show after more than a decade of being a regular cast. Did she get tired of all the crazy plotlines for her character, Dr. Callie Torres?
“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at “Grey’s Anatomy” and ABC, but for now, I’m taking some welcome time off,” Sara said in a statement, per TVLine. “[Series creator] Shonda [Rhimes has] been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations. I send my love to Ellen [Pompeo], the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!”
This is hardly a surprise, although it is painful nonetheless for the avid fans. Last month, the 40-year-old Tony-winning actress sparked rumors that she indended to move on from “Grey’s Anatomy’ with a cryptic tweet.
“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12, Episode 24 (“Family Affair”) also confirmed her beloved character, Dr. Callie Torres will be moving to New York City with new girlfriend Penny, leaving Seattle Grace behind and her ex-girlfriend Arizona.
Shonda Rhimes herself expressed her gratitude for Ramirez and her part in Shondaland. In a Twitter post, she described how proud she is of Dr. Callie Torres’ journey in “Grey’s Anatomy.” She also expressed how inspiring Sara Ramirez is. She promised the actress a home at Shondaland.
Calzona fans will certainly be heartbroken! If they were angry and sad that Callie and Arizona broke up and Callie moved on with Penny, they will certainly be angrier now that it seems impossible for Callie and Arizona to ever get back together.
Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona Robbins, just had her fourth child, as reported by USA Today. She is yet to react to this news. For quite a while, Calzona was so popular and all that people talked about when talking about “Grey’s Anatomy” after all.
