Samsung has a series of smartwatch launches set for this year and the next. The Gear S3 is currently under the works but it will soon be unveiled to the world at the International Funkausstellung festive (IFA) in Berlin September. Not stopping here, the South Korean firm is eager to rope in Swiss luxury jeweler, de Grisogono, for the second time to build a luxurious “next-generation” smartwatch.
Earlier, Samsung had collaborated with the Swiss jeweler to craft an exotic design for the limited edition luxury Samsung Gear S2, released in March this year. Following a year-round cycle, the next-gen lavish version is slated for March 2017.
“We are currently collaborating with Samsung to develop its next-generation smartwatch,” according to an official of a de Grisogno to The Korea Herald during the Conde Nast Luxury Festival which was held in Seoul last week. Samsung decided to bring Grisogono on board for the second time because the company is a fitting partner to explore the ultra-luxury accessories market.
Following the success of the diamond-studded Gear S2 last month, the newest Gear S3 is expected to create a successful niche in the market. According to Grisogono official, the $15,000 Gear S2 limited edition became quickly popular among international superrich upon its launch. The same kind of success is expected from the luxurious version of the Gear S3, reports Korea Herald.
Digital specs of the Gear S3 have not yet been revealed. Grisogono specializes in design and not in building special features. To learn about the functions of the smartwatch, you will have to wait until the gadget releases, reports GSM Arena.
In related reports, Apple owns an alleged 52% share of the global smartwatch, but Samsung’s Gear units are relatively popular in the underdeveloped markets and among the youths. The company created a record last November, with 2,000 units sold per day in South Korea that was far higher than the original number of Gear S sales, according to Phone Arena.
