Samsung has announced today its latest line of Super AMOLED tablets, the Galaxy Tab S, which comes in both 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models.
“The tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics. “With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is setting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry. It will provide consumers with a visual and entertainment experience that brings colors to life, beautifully packaged in a sleek and ultra-portable mobile device.”
The 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S features an 8.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a WQXGA screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels while the 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab S features a bigger screen at the same display resolution.
Both models are equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera capable of recording full HD video. On the inside, bot tablets features either an Exynos 5 Octa-core processor (1.9 GHz quad-core ＋ 1.3 GHz quad-core) or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16 or 32GB of internal storage with expandable storage support via microSD card up to 128GB. The 8.4-inch model is powered by a 4,900 mAh battery while the larger 10.5-inch model is equipped with a 7,900 mAh battery.
Connectivity-wise, both tablets support W-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, and are both equipped with an IR LED transmitter. Lastly, both tablets are equipped with a Fingerprint Scanner and will run Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.
Software features that will be available with the Galaxy Tab S line include Call Forwarding, Quick Connect, a Multi User Mode, and a Kids Mode.
Samsung did not announce prices for the Galaxy Tab S line but the new tablets will come in a variety of connectivity, storage, and color options including “Wi-Fi only” and “Wi-Fi and LTE”, 16GB and 32GB, and Titanium Bronze and Dazzling White, respectively. The new tablets will be available in select markets sometime in July 2014.
