The folks at SamMobile have just released images and information on what could be Samsung’s next tablet – the Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
The upcoming tablet will signal the company’s return to AMOLED displays and will be first device to feature it since 2011. According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S will come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch form factors and, according to the images the website has released, will look like Samsung’s recently released Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO line of tablets mixed in with a bit of the company’s design aspects of the company’s flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S5.
SamMobile also revealed that the Galaxy Tab S will feature a physical home button that also acts as a fingerprint sensor and will work the same way as the one on the Samsung Galaxy S5. Features such as quick multi-user login, screen unlocking, and PayPal payments, are only a few of the features the fingerprint sensor home button will provide. The rear of the device will feature a dimpled plastic back, the same type found on the Galaxy S5, as well as connectors that will allegedly be used for attaching a new Samsung smart screen cover.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S will be powered by an octa-core Exynos 5420 processor featuring four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores. It will also feature an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, and an IR blaster. Connectivity-wise, the Galaxy Tab S will support WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and LTE. The 10.5-inch variant’s OLED display will have a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The new tablet will run Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and will utilize Samsung’s own Magazine UX interface.
SamMobile did not reveal any information on the device’s release date or pricing but did say that Samsung could also be working on an 8.4-inch variant as well. Additionally, just this year Samsung has already launched 9 different tablet lines including the Galaxy Tab PRO, the Galaxy Note Pro, and the Galaxy Tab 4 line of tablets.
