According to the official website of Director of National Intelligence: “Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there.”

“We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.”

However, Russia refused to take responsibility for the email leaks affecting the U.S. presidential race. This came from the Russian ambassador to the U.S. on Tuesday.

It was reported that for more than a year, Russian government-linked hackers are repeatedly aiming Democrats and Republicans. However, the Huffington Post reported that majority of the hacked materials made public were done through sites like Russia-friendly WikiLeaks and upstart

Several critics of Russia stated that the Russian government was hacking not just to steal information but also to weaponize it.
