James Harden wanted to move him desperately. Houston Rockets pitched Dwight Howard for a Jonas Valanciunas trade to Toronto Raptors. Howard though remained un-traded by the Thursday deadline despite every effort of the Rockets to move him.
Howard is expected to opt out in the free agency in this off-season. Valanciunas, on the other hand, signed a four-year, $64 million deal with Raptors last August.
Masai Ujiri, the Raptors GM, wasn’t interested in the trade. Though forward Valanciunas is injured and Howard posted better numbers in terms of averages, the Raptors front office turned down the offer, according to Sports Kings.
The reason? The age difference between the two players mattered. Howard is 30 years old, but Valanciunas is only 23. The Raptors preferred to bank on the young forward as of now.
