Ricoh has officially announced the launch of its latest Pentax DLSR camera, the Pentax K-S1.
The K-S1 features a new 20 megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor coupled with the company’s Prime MII image processor. This allows the camera to achieve a high ISO sensitivity of up to ISO 51200, 5.4 frames per second shooting, and a fast shutter speed of 1/6000. The camera also features in-body shake reduction, an AA filter simulator, a 100% field of view glass pentaprism viewfinder.
Additionally, the K-S1 is equipped with a 3-inch 921k-dot TFT LCD screen where the camera’s flat field user interface can be seen beside a set of LED back-lit controls along with the camera’s other controls. The camera’s grip and shutter release button are also equipped with LEDs.
The K-S1’s interface, according to Ricoh, is designed for users accustomed to mobile interfaces. It features simple UI elements and easy controls for shooting parameters, filter selection and effect modes. Shooting parameters such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are also easily seen and changed with the new UI.
“With the K-S1 we are building on our solid reputation as a camera company and inviting new customers to experience the PENTAX advantage” said Jim Malcolm, Executive Vice President, Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation. “Our core PENTAX products provide an important foundation that the K-S1 builds upon.”
Additionally, the KS-1 is compatible with the Flucard for PENTAX which will give the camera additional features such as Wi-Fi transfer, wireless live view, and Remote Capture control that will work with the user’s smartphone, tablet, or computer via an app.
The K-S1 comes in a multitude of colors including three standard colors of black, blue, and white; a Fabric Collection consisting 4 color options including cotton beige and tweed gray; and a Night Sky Collection which includes colors such as Sunset Orange, Dawn Purple, and Midnight Black.
The Pentax K-S1 kit, which includes an 18-55mm lens, will be available at US retailers nationwide and at Ricoh’s US online store sometime in September 2014 at a suggested retail price of $799.95. The K-S1 body only will also be available for an SRP of $749.95.
