Joyce Mitchell, the prison seamstress who pleaded guilty of helping New York prison fugitives Richard Matt and David Sweat, gave shocking statements that bared herself as a sexually deprived housewife. She admitted performing oral sex on Matt, exchanging notes with explicit sexual fantasies and fondling his sensitive parts. She also admitted taking photos of her vagina and breasts for the fugitives’ pleasure. She said she did this for the attention and adulation she got from both Matt and Sweat.
However, at the end of the day, she knew that she loves her husband and would not trade her family for anything in the world.
Fulfilling Mitchell’s sexual fantasies
Mitchell had first pursued a romantic relationship with Sweat. However, rumors about them had reached the management and Sweat was re-assigned to another post. At this time, she asked Matt to pass sexually explicit notes to Sweat. She also took photos of her private parts and gave them to Matt to pass on to Sweat.
The favors exchanged between Mitchell and Matt were initially platonic. She allowed her to call his daughter. In exchange, he painted a portrait of her family which she gave to her husband, Lyle. However, at some point, the platonic relationship became sexual.
Prisoner Matt is fond of random sexual acts which probably made the setup all the more exciting for Mitchell. In a statement obtained by NBC News, Mitchell said that in April, Matt gave her an open-mouth French kiss after grabbing her while they were alone in the tailor shop. This was repeated twice at the bottom of the first set of stairs.
In May, Matt was able to convince her to perform an oral job. She said Matt has this playful thing of wearing a big coat, cut with a hole – an easy access for her to fondle his endowment.
In due course, Matt divulged to Mitchell their plan of escaping the Clinton Correctional Facility. At a point where it was not clear to Mitchell, she agreed to run away with the two.
However, at the point where it dawned to her that she is leaving her family forever, she decided otherwise.
“After Lyle was asleep, I was supposed to drive to Dannemora and meet them by the powerhouse. After I picked them up, the plan was to drive to my home and Inmate Matt was going to kill ‘the glitch.’ Inmate Matt referred to Lyle as ‘the glitch.” the statement reads.
“The agreed upon meeting time was midnight. I was to drive my Jeep and bring my cellphone, gps, clothes, a gun, tents, sleeping bags, hatchet, fishing poles and money from a package I never picked up,” she said.
“I know I had agreed to help them escape and run away with them, but I panicked and couldn’t follow through with the rest of the plan,” she explained.
“I enjoyed the attention, the feeling both of them gave me and the thought of a different life.”
But she “really do love my husband and he’s the reason” she changed her mind. She was still wearing her wedding ring in court.
Mitchell pleaded guilty
Mitchell pleaded guilty to first-degree promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree criminal facilitation, ABC News reported. She now faces a prison sentence ranging from 2 1/3 years to 7 years. The judge ruled that she could be released on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
Stephen Johnston, her attorney, said Mitchell regretted everything. Lyle, on the other hand, was heartbroken but is very much willing to give her moral support.
“She realizes that she made a horrible mistake,” Johnston told ABC.
